De Gournay is a family company specialising in the creation of the world’s finest hand-painted wallpapers and hand-embroidered fabrics. Founded by Claud Cecil Gurney with his nephew Dominic Evans-Freke in 1984, and now joined by his daughters Hannah and Rachel, de Gournay brings interiors to life with engaging reinterpretations of historic wallpapers – forging a reputation for artisanal skill and bespoke expertise that has seen them transform from cult niche to industry leaders.
Donated for auction are a framed pair of hand-painted panels of Chinoiserie wallpaper depicting the ‘Earlham’ motif on a background of blue Williamsburg – inspired by historic panels housed within the archive of London’s Victoria & Albert museum and typical of the permanent collection of Chinoiserie designs for which the brand is famed.
The value of this prize is £14,000.
